Record: 7-3

Season Review: Coach Mark Huynh led the Boy Volleyball Team to a very competitive season coming in 3rd place in the league. However, the team fell just short of the championship, losing their playoff game to Lincoln(17-25, 19-25, 21-25)

Outlook: Although a lot of seniors will be leaving this year, the Boy Volleyball will still have a fresh, young team for next year. However, Coach Mark is concerned that the young team players are not talented enough to make the playoffs again.

“ We did very good, but we could have done better.” —Ryan Tong, 11th grade

Girls SoccerGirls Soccer Team

Record: 4-8-1

Season Review: The Galileo’

s Girls soccer team, although only having been around seven years, has grown a lot, with improved playing skills and effort, and this season they were only one game away from the playoffs.

Outlook: There are six starters that are graduating this year which means the team needs some new players. They will need many freshmen to keep the team’s numbers up.

“The highlight of the season was the fact that we were close to the playoffs, and worked as a team this season,” states junior, Myra Ayala.

Boys Frosh-Soph Basketball

Season record: 3-5

Review: This year’s boy’s frosh/soph basketball team did well, but did not have enough discipline to make it to the playoffs. Even though they had a lot of talent, most of the starting players did not live up to the expectations.

Outlook: Next years frosh/soph basketball team will have a lot of experience because most of the players will be returning next year.  With the talent of the returning players, the frosh/soph team will look to make a playoff push.

“Lots of our players were not listening and disrupting practice so we could hardly get anything done to our plays, but we still had a decent season and I still had fun playing.”

Sophomore, Alan Tse

Record: 3-11

Review: This year’s boy’s varsity basketball team had a frustrating season.  Even though they got a long really well off the court, they just could not put the pieces together on the court to have a successful season.

Outlook: Next years boys’

varsity basketball team will still lack height but will have more experience.  Hopefully, the experience the players have will push the team to compete with other high schools to try to make it to the playoffs.

“I think we can be competitive next season because we have a lot of guys coming back to play from last year, and they got a decent amount of playing time so I think we can make a run to playoffs, it’ll be a challenge though.”

Junior, Jefferey Hua

Girls Varsity BasketballGirl’s Varsity Basketball

Record:2-11

Review: While the Galileo varsity girl’s basketball team went  third place last season, they didn’t even come close to playoffs this season. Communication problems within the players ultimately lead to them  being last place in their division.

Outlook:Even though a few dominant players are graduating, key players including Connie Liang will be returning next season along with Alisa Yan and new faces from this year’s junior varsity basketball team. With the addition of new players, communication problems from this season can be potentially fixed leading to a better season.

“We could have done better, way better. We had lots of potential, but we needed more support. I feel they can be better next year with a better coach and a better basketball program.”

Senior, Camille Bustos

Girls JV BasketballGirls JV Basketball

Record: 3-13

Season Review: The Girl’s JV Basketball Team had a challenging season. Not only was the team made up of mostly freshmen, but many players were new and inexperienced.

Outlook: With a lot of players improving, most players will return next season and build up a stronger team.

“This season was interesting. Games were more competitive and we beat last year’s record. We’ll try to improve our record next season. – Freshmen, Amanda Chang

Varsity BaseballVarsity Baseball

Record: 10 – 4

Season Review: Although Galileo varsity baseball had an up and down season, they succeeded in accomplishing their goal by bringing home the first championship title since 1978 against Washington high school with a score of 5-4.

Season Outlook: Next year the varsity baseball team will look to repeat as champions again with many sophomores and juniors returning.

“I was surprised by this team winning championships. At the beginning of this season I didn’t think we had the players to be good enough to be a championship team.” –12th grade pitcher Dylan Nelson

Boys JV BaseballBoys JV Baseball

Record: 2 –6

Season Review: For the JV baseball team they had a very challenging season. With a whole new team and a new coach, the team had to go through a lot of trials and obstacles, but from these trials the team was able to gain experience.

Season Outlook: With a whole new group this year, next year looks to be a good one. With the whole team returning, there are high expectations for each player to produce. Next season looks to have an improved record as well as a run for the championship.

“This year was a fun year, we made it to the play offs. Next year should be a lot better since we have a lot of freshmen on our team.”

Sophomore, Brian Gee

JV Football

JV Football

Record: 2-5

Season review: The team didn’t finish too well because of their inexperience and a lot of injuries. Overall however, they made a good effort and never quit.

Season outlook: They will be better next year because there are a lot of continuing freshman.

Season went pretty well, could’ve put in a little more effort, A lot of mistakes but that’s what seasons are for we learn from our mistakes, and that’s how we will get better.”

Freshmen, Jose Garcia

Varsity Football

Record: 9-3

Season review: The seniors pulled the team together this year and built up their strength. They kept improving which got them the championship.

Outlook: A lot of seniors will be leaving, so the team will be less experienced. It’s going to be a faster team and they have a good chance of making playoffs if they work hard.

“We had a really great season because all the players worked really hard together and pulled through to make it to the championships.  Everyone was really motivated.”

Jessie Armas, senior

swimming1Swimming

Record: Boy’s Varsity 3-3, Girl’s Varsity 2-4, Boy’s JV 6-0, Girl’s JV 3-3

Season Review: Galileo’s swim team this year consisted of many new players. Although they didn’t have as many returning players as expected, the swim team improved a lot this year. A couple of JV Boys were even moved up to the Varsity team during the season finals because they passed the JV limit. Swimmers were more dedicated and serious this year, and they even took time out of practice to gain more endurance to better serve the team.

Outlook: Next year’s swim team is expecting more swimmers than ever before. Combined with returning swimmers from this year, the swim team received the highest number of sign-ups at this year’s open house.

“It was a fun season. We did really well as a team, being undefeated, but there was room for improvement.”

Freshmen, Justin Lee
